With a focus on Greater London, Andy Overall explores the variety of habitats in the urban environment to describe the most common and characteristic fungi that can be found.
In Britain, we have between 3,500 and 4,000 species of larger fungi, otherwise known as mushrooms and toadstools. If searching for fungi, most people will be drawn to the countryside in the autumn months, but mushrooms and toadstools can be found throughout the year and, perhaps surprisingly, a great number are present in our towns and cities.
