"The cat brought in a Goldcrest. As it came in through the catflap it was intercepted and parted from its prey. The bird must have been caught cleanly because there was hardly a feather out of place, but it lay in my hand completely motionless, wings neatly folded and legs drawn up under its belly. It could have been a specimen brought out of a museum cabinet. After half an hour in a box, the Goldcrest recovered its wits and was released.
