Tucked away in the westernmost fringes of Hampshire, in the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire, lies one of our largest and most important chalkland nature reserves – Martin Down. Although still relatively new as a reserve, and surprisingly little known, it is a wonderful place for the naturalist, if only for its sheer scale. It is also a marvellous site for demonstrating how challk grassland can, and should, be managed.
