The clay Vale of Aylesbury is traditionally an area of mixed farming. Hedgerows are an important part of the landscape and can be the most valuable features for wildlife on some farms. There has been a recent resurgence of hedge-laying, encouraged by agri-environment schemes. Anecdotal observations by staff at Aylesbury Vale District Council's (ADVC) Countryside Service have noted that, for a short time, following traditional laying, opportunities for wildlife are limited.
