"It is a truth universally acknowledged that this year has been one of the best anyone can remember for autumn colours. I am looking out at a splendid sylvan view. Shades of pale green, yellow, orange and red on turning foilage are lit up by the sun against a backdrop of pale blue sky and framed by the dark evergreen of conifers. Birch and Beech are contributing the most and best colours, while Guelder Rose lends a brilliant red. Some oaks are still green but others have started to turn brown."
