"My education in zoology was based on comparative anatomy, The archetypal essay title was 'Compare and contrast the annelids and arthropods'. My invertebrate textbook and 'bible', known as BEPS (authors: Borradaile, Eastman, Potts & Saunders), was illustrated with simple line drawings of animals and parts of animals. We learned ven/ little about how these animals lived, and it was a revelation, when my father and I were writing an enormous Encyclopaedia ofAnimal Life in the 19605, to find that my textbook invertebrates led such interesting lives. Nowadays you can see them performing on television."
