30×30: where do we stand?

As the Labour Government inherits the legally binding commitment to restore 30% of land and sea for nature, Richard Benwell looks at progress to date and the actions required to meet the target.

In his first speech as Foreign Secretary, David Lammy told an audience at Kew Gardens that ‘while I am Foreign Secretary, action on the climate and nature crisis will be central to all that the Foreign Office does’. To guide UK efforts, Mr Lammy set out three priorities for his environmental diplomacy: to create a Global Clean Power Alliance, to boost climate and nature finance, and to reverse the decline in global biodiversity.
